Spousal Support

One of the most contentious determinations in a family law case is whether to award spousal support and for how long. In most cases whether a temporary or pendent lite spousal support will be made at the beginning of the case, and for how much, is an outcome that experienced counsel can predict. Permanent spousal support, and particularly the appropriate amount to award is a much harder determination to make. The judge must evaluate and consider specified factors to arrive at a decision. Presenting evidence at trial on the issue of spousal support is a time consuming and therefore costly matter. It is essential that you have an attorney whose judgment you can trust, with the experience and temperament to advise you whether you should pay (or receive) spousal support and if so, how much and for how long.
